A website for Tamil classical conference launched

Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Wednesday launched the website (www.ulakathamizhchemmozhi.org) for the World Classical Tamil Conference to be held in Coimbatore in June 2010. It will be in Tamil and English.

Opening with Nathaswaram Mallari music, the website presents the emblem of Tamil Nadu government and the logo of the classical Tamil conference. It has different sections relating to the theme of the conference-- announcements on the meet, the significance of the host city (Kovai 2010) and the historical background of the declaration of Tamil as a classical language, etc.

There is a provision for online registration. There is a blog section (Mana Vurai) too, where one can post views and comments. Links to the Tamil University, Tamil Virtual University, International Forum for Information Technology in Tamil (INFITT), Thinnai and Project Tamil have been provided in the website.

M. Rajendran, Tamil University Vice-Chancellor and coordinator of the Academic Committee for the meet, explained features of the website.

Later, Mr. Karunanidhi told media persons that on the final day (June 27, 2010) of the conference there will be a massive rally. The conference would begin on June 23, 2010.

Several committees were being formed in connection with the meet. The expenses of the conference would be monitored by the Chief Secretary, Finance Secretary, Special Officer and the District Collector. The government would meet whatever requirements indicated by the officials.

K. Anbazhagan and Arcot N. Veeraswami, Ministers, Kanimozhi, Member of Parliament, K. Allaudin, Special Officer, Information secretary K Muthuswamy, Information director C Kamaraj and Conference Research wing convenor K ramaswamy were among those present.

The Chief Minister also released two bulletins in connection with the conference and the 2010 calendar designed by the State Tourism department.
